Your Health and Stress

I was just watching Good Morning America and they had a Dr. Merrill who just wrote a book called, “The Source: Unleash Your Natural Energy, Power Up Your Health, and Feel 10 Years Younger”. Dr. Merrill talked about six ways to feeling 10 years younger. They are:

1. Power Mind, Boundless Energy
2. Power Food, Your High Performance Fuel
3. Power Detox, Remove Toxins, Increase Vitality
4. Power Exercise, the Energy Factory
5. Power Rest, How to Recharge Your Battery
6. Power of Connection: Cultivate Spirit, Access Positive Energy

As someone who has battled cancer, diabetes and heart disease all of these six ways resonate with me, but the way that resonates particularly with me is way number 1. The number 1 thing I believe was critical in my health transformation was my state of mind. My thoughts drove everything else. I like the fact that it is listed as way number 1 because I think it is that critical. You need to get this book! I have included a link (and yes it is my affiliate link. I hope you don’t mind :-). Over the course of the next couple of days I will be writing articles on each of the ways outlined in this book.

Stress can arise for a variety of reasons. Stress can be brought about by a traumatic accident, death, or emergency situation. Stress can also be a side effect of a serious illness or disease. There is also stress associated with daily life, the workplace, and family responsibilities. It’s hard to stay calm and relaxed in our hectic lives. As women, we have many roles: spouse, mother, caregiver, friend, and/or worker. With all we have going on in our lives, it seems almost impossible to find ways to de-stress. But it’s important to find those ways. Your health depends on it.

    Hazelluis,
Thank you for the comments. I agree wholeheartedly. Stress can come from a variety of ways. And it does seem like it is almost impossible to find ways to de-stress. One of the things I did was pre-plan a quarterly getaway day. I go to a hotel room. I take the battery out of my cell phone and disconnect for the weekend. I order room service and do nothing, PERIOD. It was so life changing that I did the same for my wife and included a spa treatment.

My wife is all of the things you outline above. I truly appreciate her. As a husband I think it is part of my responsibility as her partner to look out for her. When you have all of those roles and are in the middle of them. It sometimes takes someone who care for you to tap you on the shoulder and say, "Hey, take a break".

Hazelluis, do you have any de-stress ideas?
